About
Hi, I’m Babs!
Needing a creative outlet from my full-time desk job, I signed up for a ceramics class in 2018 and quickly discovered that the challenge of clay’s endless possibilities made me lose sense of time in the most restorative way.
After being humbled by glazing disasters and some truly gnarly “bowls” in my early days, I came to embrace the principles of wabi-sabi. Finding beauty in imperfection and accepting that change is a part of life is inevitable in a medium where things can go any which direction.
Babs is a nickname, but my full name translates to “strange foreigner.” I can appreciate the irony in this translation now, but while growing up as a 2nd gen, white-presenting Filipina American I sometimes felt disconnected from the communities around me- a stranger to others and to my heritage. Additionally, as a two-time breast cancer survivor I'm adjusting to life with a different mindset and body after many surgeries, active treatment, and endocrine therapies.
These days, I feel my best when enjoying a ritualistic, slow morning coffee with my sweet husband. I have a long skincare routine, love a dramatic dress sleeve, am energized by music, and will stay up hours into the night devouring a good book.
And like a lot of gals with life threatening illnesses are wont to do, I co-host a podcast called My Breasties with my sister Kat and her bff Aimee that we sporadically record as a way to keep breast cancer curious fam… abreast.
